  • All players must be registered before going on the ice.

  • All players must have full equipment to take the ice.Proper sized equipment is very important for the safety and performance of the players. You can reference this Guide to Hockey Equipment (PDF).  Players will need their own jerseys for the conditioning sessions, one will be supplied for the season.

  • You should always arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your ice time to check-in and get ready. If you would like, you can send them on the ice with a water bottle that has their name affixed to it and the on-ice helpers will help them with it. Please check-in prior to these sessions.

A FEW NOTES ABOUT THE IP PROGRAM: HOCKEY FOR THE FUN OF IT!

In terms of the Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTADM), the Initiation Program (IP) program is at the very important Active Start and FUNdamentals stages of development – with the emphasis being to learn new skills and improve through fun activities and experiences. Hockey Canada’s IP program is designed to teach technical skills (85%) and individual tactics (15%) and utilizes fun games and activities that encourage skill development through exploration and discovery.
Station-based activities and cross-ice hockey games allow young players to experience more puck-handling, shooting, skating, coordination and decision-making. Small-area games are used at all levels of the game – including senior national teams and the NHL.

More information about the IP Program is available here:

VOLUNTEERING

The success of all CPMHA programs are dependent on the involvement of volunteers!

If you are interested in helping instruct at this level, please email Lee at ip.cpmha@rogers.com. All instructors (lead instructors and assistants) are required to complete the Intro Coach clinic, Respect in Sport* and provide a police check (PDF)You will need approval before taking the courses. Please contact Lee at ip.manager@cpmha.ca  if you would like more information.
Once groups are formed, each group will also require a manager, assistant manager, treasurer (optional) and a trainer. Both will need Respect in Sport*and a police check (PDF); the trainer will need appropriate certification.
We will provide more information once the groups are formed.
* Note about Respect in Sport, the program for parents is different from the one for coaches/instructors/managers/trainers.

INITIATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
IP INFORMATION SESSION

At least one parent for each child is required to attend an in-house orientation and information session. You will be advised of the date once it is set. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about the IP program, hockey development and ask questions.  If you have attended in the past, no need to re-attend.

RESPECT IN SPORT – PARENT

As the parents of an initiation, novice and/or new player to hockey, one parent is required to take the Respect in Sport - Parent course.  The deadline to complete the course is Oct. 15, 2018.  Players will not be permitted on the ice if the course is not completed by the deadline.

If you have any questions now or throughout the season, please feel free to communicate with us.

Yours in hockey,
Allison and Lee
